Bombay is SICK!!!

My darling Bombay is not well. Early this morning, I noticed that only Callas greeted me when I got out of bed. I didn't pay too much attention to it. I figured that Bombay must have found something else more interesting than sleepy old me... still yawny and teary and all unglamourous in my ripped PJs.

Later in the afternoon when I came by to give my darlings a cuddle and a snack, Bombay was still nowhere to be seen. I found him lying quietly inside his carrier. Still thinking nothing was amiss, I played with Callas and even tilted the carrier left and right to get Bombay to come out to play. But he wouldn't budge.

So I went to get the snacks and put them into the kittens' food bowl. Callas came to eat. But Bombay remained in the carrier. I knew then that something was wrong. Bombay is the greediest kitten I know. He will always come running where food can be found.

I quickly bent down and pulled Bombay gently out of the carrier. I noticed that he was moving very sluggishly and barely made it into the litterbox. I thought that he might have pulled a muscle playing a little too rough with Callas and stood by to observe some more. He seemed to be stretching normally, just in super slo-mo, and he even scratched a little on the scratching post without showing any signs of pain or discomfort. Then he went back to lie down again and wouldn't move anymore.

So I got up and cradled my baby and he slept on me for a while. But during his nap, I noticed that he shivered quite a bit. He felt warm and his nose was drier than normal. I think he may have a fever.

I've made an appointment for Bombay to see the vet later this evening. My guess is it isn't anything too serious. It could just be the stress from the weekend's adoption drive... or he might have picked up a virus there. I've tried to make Bombay as comfy as possible. He has chosen the warmest spot in the kitchen - the bottom of my refridgerator where the vent lets out warm air.

I'll keep all of you posted on Bombay's condition. Until then... we'll let Bombay rest.

By looking at him, he needs immediate attention. Don't let lie down too long without medical attention. It's not good for his lungs. When an animal lungs get affected, it can turn quite bad.

Dear Coboypb, Kuro.shiro.neko and Moglee,

Thank you for your concern for Bombay! He is doing better today... still not moving around much, but the doc says it is to be expected with a fever.

I'll be posting a detailed update on Bombay soon. Meanwhile, please take comfort in knowing that he is stable and recovering.

Cheers,

PS. Not much more peace in the house with Callas throwing in more energy into enticing Bombay to play with him. The poor dude can't figure out why his bro is so subdued.

Glad that he got medical attention. It will be comforting if you can separate Bombay from Callas for the time being, to avoid him getting too stress. I mean, no contact with Bombay, close the room door. And if Bombay does not shift his position, do for him. Again to avoid stress on one part of his body. Hope the vet give him Vit C and ascorbic acid in his medication.

Hi Moglee,

I kept both kittens apart last night so that Bombay could get some shuteye. So that could explain Callas' over-excitement at seeing Bombay again this morning for breakfast.

I'll be sure to keep a sharp eye on Bombay... as you say, to help make sure he doesn't get sore from staying in one position for too long. I'm also making sure he gets enough to drink.

The vet gave an anti-viral syrup and some tablets to control the fever. I have my own supply of ascorbic acid, but no Vit C. Maybe I should pop by the stores later to get some for both kitties.

Thanks for all the suggestions, Moglee. :) Bombay thanks you too!

Poor Callas is crying this very moment for his brother Bombay. He keeps running around the house searching for him and trying to call for him. So sad but oh so cute! :P

hey, ascorbic acid IS vit C. Just different "versions".

if you are going to the stores, one good vit c is ester c. but of course, you will have to grind it into powder for bombay.

Ah! I should have been clearer. I meant to say that I have my own supply of ascorbic acid powder, but no Vit C tablets. The powder proved to be too harsh for the kittens before and gave them diarrhea. So I'm hoping the chewable tablets will be more gentle on their tummies.
