Anyone knows who Mary Osman is?

Yesterday, while my Dad and I were driving around in the car, I told him about the 'Old Days' questions I had answered. I told him that it made me realise how old I am. I mentioned Fantasy Island and The Love Boat to him. And he agreed that they were from a long time ago.

Then he informed me that I was wrong to fill in Nancy Kwan's name... that she was from his time, not mine. Hmm... I guess I just remember watching a lot of Nancy Kwan movies and admiring her pan-Asian looks and curvacious bod. That scene of her twirling the tassels on her bra has been burnt into my mind forever.

My Dad and I discussed more famous people of my time and then he turned to me and said, "Hey, you should know this famous singer. He's very famous and from your time. Er... his name is... Osman."

My face fell. "Osman? I definitely do not know him."

"He's very famous," my Dad insisted. "Osman! You should know him."

"Da, I don't know any Malay singers from back then."

"He's not Malay," my Dad said. "Aiyah... Osman! You know... er... Mary... Mary Osman?"

"Huh? Mary Osman? And she's a man?"

"Tsk! Mary Osman and... Der... Danny Osman."

"OH!!! You mean, Donny and Marie Osmond!"

So that cleared the air.

Anyway, for those of you feeling bad about getting old... this should make you feel better.

When I asked my Dad about the TV shows of his time, he sighed and replied, "We had no TV then. We only had redifussion."

Feeling better now?

the entire Osmond clan came here in 1978 or 1979. I think. and then the entire island - well almost - went absolutely delirious when they popped out of the plane, the SIA girls putting on the orchid thingy - not dissimilar to the hawaiian lei - around each of the osmond siblings' necks. it was shown on the news you see, and rightly discussed in class the next day. they were massive. oh Donny and his colour purple not that i'm a big fan of his :p [eyes went misty ..]

that aside, honestly i can't wait to turn 40 - no regrets of some silly stuff i did or not having done anything when i was younger. oh and to be the older woman too :D

I remember Hawaii-5-O. Love boat was there too.

Care bears, Ming Yue wan dao (Bright Moon curved knife) were those 'young days' of mine.

Age is catching up... especially when you are on the descend.

Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!! This was a hilarious post.

There's this song that always gets to me, makes me misty-eyed. I don't know the title, but the chorus goes "Somewhere in my heart there is a star that shines for you". I dunno why but the song always makes me remember the red bean buns that Yaohan used to make. Strange eh...

Anyway have a very happy new year, 5-Cat Style!!! :) :) :)

Gong Xi Fa Cai, everyone! :D May this new year bring you new friendships and tighter family ties. And, of course, more comfort and compassion for our animal friends.

Do you guys remember this BBC comedy called Mind Your Language? The catchphrase "Thousand apologies!" was quite the riot with me and my bunch of friends back in my schooldays.

I may as well mention Mork and Mindy, Different Strokes, Mr. Belvedere, and the He-Man and She-Ra cartoons.

CatDonna,

I know the song you're talking about. It's one of my retro favourites.

The chorus goes like this, doesn't it?

"Somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see it through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
All you've got to be is true"

"Mork calling Orson, come in Orson.." :D

how about "happy days"? the Fonz was my class favourite. mind your language - apparently there was everyone in my secondary sch class that fit the characters.

oh pardon my kpo-ness, that song in question is by aztec camera: "somewhere in my heart". not sure if you'd recall this one-hit wonder Strawberry Switchblade? very early 80's obiang-dressing pair of birds but quirky nonetheless. all those tunes of yore. they don't make them like they used to. innit?

oh and a-ha are back. Back. BACK.

Yeah, that's the one! omg 5-Cat Style, you have a fantastic memory. Thx for the heads up, letter b. And I've always thought Morten Harket was cute. :D

*starts googling for "aztec camera"*

*instinctively starts drooling*

Dang. Dang those red bean buns of my childhood.
