While India's Tiger number is dwindling, estimated to be as low as 2,000, the US is seeing a surge in puppy birth in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Animal welfare workers on the northern Gulf Coast fear it is only the start of a big boom in dog births, with as many as 75 new animals arriving daily at one animal shelter only.
