A Dramatic Butt-Washing

Because Slash is so floofy,
the business of pooping can get a little messy for him.

Guess who gets the fun job of cleaning his butt?

Here's a little peek at the soapy drama I have to endure from his butt-washing:

With my arm strategically hooked under his chest and between his arms,
I lower Slash into a sink with warm running water.

Because his fur is so thick,
it takes a while for him to feel the water on his behind.
He usually starts out being oblivious and fairly relaxed...

To being rudely shocked and offended.

The first physical struggle is usually a weak one.
At this stage, he is merely testing the strength of my grip on him.

As his patience wears thin, the struggles get stronger and more violent.

It is at this time that I have to be careful because
he would have figured out an escape route.

A look of utter mischief confirms my fear.

In a flash, he is out of my arms and on top of my shoulders,
his wet butt dripping conditioner all over me.

The naughty boy won't even bother to leap off
where I would have a better chance of re-capturing him.
Instead, he cleverly stays perched on my shoulders and out of my reach.

With help from my startled friend Jennet, Slash is back in the sink.
I assure her that I am unhurt.

Apart from getting wet...

And having my top torn by his claws, I have not been mauled.

A sulky Slash surrenders himself finally and
allows me to finish up the butt bath without further drama.

The final stage in Slash's torment is a quick drying of his bottom
with a super absorbent microfibre towel.

Wet and grumpy, but poop-free and smelling like green apples,
I release him to freedom.

I'll give Slash some peace for now...
before tormenting him with a good brushing of his bottom later.

Mommy! Why are you hiding in the study again?

Why do you prefer your books over me? Me! Your floofy, handsome son!

Look at me when I'm talking to you, Mommy!

Fine! You leave me no choice but to burn your back with my laser eyes.

Wha...? The power of one isn't enough?

Well, that's alright...

Slash Hates Getting Brushed

Slash isn't the easiest cat to brush.

But I have to give it my best shot because
I don't want to keep sedating him for professional grooming.

I wish he understood that and would make it easy for me.
But his line of thinking goes something like,
"Why make it easy when you can make it hard for Mom?"

His protests usually begin with lots of grumbling.

They will then progress into a more violent form of struggling.

That is why I have to hug him in a very strategic pose.
Need to avoid getting clawed at and chewed on, you know.

When Slash finally tires himself out from all the fighting,
he will close his eyes and stay frozen in a rigid position.

But not without pulling some extraordinary faces
to show his continued disapproval of getting 'tortured' by the brush.

Slash & the Coffee Table

Mommy says that because I am so floofy, I make a great glass cleaner.

So she asked me to help her wipe clean the glass top on the coffee table.

I'm not sure I want to. Some of these stains look pretty dodgy.

Rejection Hurts!

Slash woke up a grumpy pooh today.
And poor Bronzy had to bear the brunt of it.

Look at what happened this morning.

Slash was staring me down...

When Bronzy stumbled upon the scene.

She decided to give her brother a little love.

But Slash recoiled immediately...

Got up...

And swaggered away.

Poor Bronzy...

Farewell to a Dear Friend

Sweet Praline passed away peacefully yesterday with her Mom by her side.

She was 15.

I am grateful to have gotten to know Praline and her Mom,
Paula, through our blogs.

I remember when I introduced Slash to the blogosphere over 2 years ago,
Praline and her Mom were one of the first to welcome him warmly.

They have given us a loving space in their hearts ever since.

I will sorely miss reading about Praline's daily adventures,
especially the ones that she shares with her Mom.

They have a beautifully close relationship.

From that impish kitten...

To the lovely lady that she grew into...

Praline adored her Mom every step of the way to the very end.

In fact, it was on her Mom's shoulder that Praline laid her head
and shut her eyes for the last time.

Even as my heart aches, I cannot imagine the depth of Paula's grief.

I urge you to pay Praline's Mom a visit at her blog
and to leave a few words to help soothe a badly broken heart.
